Description of Organization:

The Center for Human Development provides a broad range of high quality, community-oriented human services.  Jessie’s House is Hampshire County’s only shelter offering emergency housing for families.  

Mission of Organization:

Jessie’s House serves and guides homeless families towards a future of hope, good health, and a safe place to call home; helps families develop the skills needed to establish sustainable self-sufficiency; provides outreach services to help families continue on the path to success after leaving the shelter; and, promotes community awareness of homelessness and related issues.

Target Population:

Homeless parents and children.

Number Served Annually:

Because of a $3.5 million contract awarded in 2009 by the Department of Transitional Assistance, Jessie’s House was able to more than triple the number of families it serves to 84.

The Center for Human Development’s 2010 annual budget is $55 million.  Public documents do not reveal what portion of that amount is devoted to Jessie’s House.
